Senior-Sibling Assembly 2024

By Beatriz Lara ‘26 (Reporter)

One of the most anticipated assemblies at FCS is the annual Senior-Sibling Assembly, a lively competition between sibling pairs. This year’s contestants were senior Zoey and freshman Cai Dunne, senior Timia and sophomore Madison Jones, senior Helen and freshman Ryan Potts, and senior Avner and sophomore Eleanor Schwartz. After a talent show, sibling trivia, and a dance battle, the Potts siblings came away with the win.

Typically, sibling pairs lip sync to childhood or popular songs for the talent show round. It has proven to be a reliable way to energize the crowd, and, more importantly, the judges, who are winners of past Senior-Sibling Assemblies. Helen and Ryan, however, chose to change things up for their talent show act. When it was their turn to perform, they re-enacted the iconic fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. “We wanted to show our relationship and the things we have in common. One of those is Star Wars,” said Helen. The other talent show acts included the Dunne siblings’ rendition of “Do you Want to Build a Snowman?” and traditional lip sync acts from the Jones siblings, who chose “Never Say Never” from The Karate Kid (2010), and the Schwartz siblings, who chose “Freak the Freak Out” from Victorious.

The Potts’ siblings' unique act was perhaps the most memorable part of the competition. Regarding their preparations, Ryan shared, “We spent like a week practicing. We really wanted to make sure it looked good. Since we weren't lip-syncing, we needed to make it entertaining in another way.” They certainly succeeded in their goal. From the audience, one could sense how much they enjoyed their dramatic, though nonetheless light-hearted, act. Their priority was not to win, however, but to have as much fun as possible. “I mean, we wanted to win, sure,” Helen said, “but it was definitely more about the chance to have fun and hang out at school, which we don’t really get to do a lot.” They recommend the assembly for all siblings who want to have fun and enjoy a nice bonding time at school. When asked about advice for future contenders, they replied, “Just really be yourself, and try to do something that shows your personality. It’ll be the most fun.”
